| Adopt a Missionary
Have you ever had the desire
to live vicariously through the adventures
of a missionary? Or wonder how they sustain
themselves away from family and friends
from home? Wonder no more! Your small group
can adopt one of our 20 NewSong sponsored
missionaries. Find out for yourself the
exciting adventures of serving as a missionary
and how you can care for them by building
personal relationships with these faithful
servants through our Missionary Adoption
Program.
A. What is it?
Newsong supports 20 + missionary units throughout
the world including Japan, Kyrgyzstan, China
and the United States. There has been high
interest expressed from the missionaries
to be better connected with Newsong community
as well as interest from the Newsong family
to better know the missionaries that we
support. Therefore, a Missionary Care Adoption
program has been created to better connect
Newsong supported missionaries in the field
with a small group. By adopting a missionary,
the small groups will be able to build a
personal relationship with the missionary
and his family.
B. What is the purpose?
The purpose is twofold:
1. to care for and encourage the missionaries
that we support and
2. to help our congregation become more
aware of God's heart for the nations by
becoming effective senders (and what better
way by connecting with true on-the-spot
missionaries who share amazing stories!)
C. How can the small group care
for and encourage the missionary?
The small group can pray for the missionary's
specific prayer repuests, pray for the people
the missionaries are trying to reach, send
emails or letters, give updates about Newsong
and send a care package of goodies they
may be missing from home.
D. How does a small group adopt
a missionary?
A missionary unit is matched up to a small
group for a one-year period (this is done
by missionary care team). The missionary
will be introduced to the small group either
in person or via email depending on where
the missionary is located (missionary care
team serves as the liason or link). Pertinent
information willl be provided (i.e. ministry
target & email addresses etc.) Missionary
care team member will go over security.
The smalll group will also be introduced
to the missionary. The missionary will commit
to providing monthly newsletter or correspondent
to the small group. From there, the small
group can care and encourage the missionary.
Our hopes is that missionary care will help
in the initial stages and will continue
to provide support and information when
the small group needs guidance.
E. What's expected from the small
group?
The small groups can be as much involved
as they want. However, the minimum requirements/expectations
from the small groups is the following:
* One year committment to the missionary
* Pray for the missionaries (structure depends
on small group leader)
* Pray for the target groups they are trying
to reach (missionary care team can help
with resourcing small groups)
* monthly emails (to the missionary)
* one care package (sent to missionary--finance
will be discussed) |
